Yup, it's November

posted Sunday, 6 November 2005

Ah, November. The month that TLL always almost has a nervous breakdown. Although the last couple haven't been so bad, since we have Phil full-time. Before that, I'd go home and just cry in despair at the state of our library/homeless shelter.

Last November, I was feeling very unhappy and wanted to quit after
this day.

And okay, it was actually late October 2003 when things got so bad with the homeless invasion that we couldn't stand it any more and I had to plead with the Deputy Chief to let us have Phil all day and try and get the police to help us. I'm still very proud of myself for that one, since it actually worked.

Anyway, on to November 2005. Yesterday we had a guy come in, go upstairs and fall asleep. When Phil woke him up, he freaked out and started swearing and asked Phil what time he got off work. It's so funny when they do that, because Phil would totally fight them (as long as he was off duty) and Phil would absolutely win. So, threats and swearing and yelling, the usual. He came down to the desk and yelled at the on-call and me that he wanted to make a complaint against the security guard. My standard response to this is is there are the comment cards, fill one out in a totally "I don't care" voice. I have no desire to engage these crazies, but they're welcome to rant away on paper, as long as they leave me and other patrons alone.

He took one and then came over to my side of the desk, ready to rant. I repeated that he needed to fill out the form and we'd give it to the manager. He started to fill it out, stormed over to the circ desk, wrote some more there and then stormed back upstairs where I gather he threatened Phil again. Then he came back down and threw the comment card at me, ranting that Phil wanted to fight him at 5:00. When he called Phil a mother****** in front of a child who was being helped by the on-call, I ordered him out of the library. I'm not having any of that. He said he was going, but continued to rant all the way out.

It's so funny, the people who do this and complain about Phil are precisely the reason that we need Phil.

Oh, by the way, here's what his comment card said "Accuse of sleeping. Swearing. Watching me constantly. Just walkin 2 min prior. Verry rude." Yeah, you walked in and went to sleep. That's why he "accused" you of it. I myself heard you swear, I can just imagine what you were saying to Phil upstairs. Phil was "watching" you because you were screaming, swearing, and threatening him. And you were indeed verry rude, yes. :) Sounds like you summed it up pretty well, bucky.
