If you're going to take it, at least put it back

posted Wednesday, 4 June 2008
A weird incident yesterday - I was standing at the copier, which is in front of our front window. A very elderly Indo-Canadian man knocked on the glass, said something incomprehensible, and then held up one of our tiny chairs from the children's department! He'd taken it (without permission) outside (why, I don't know - we have benches) and wanted me to go out (in the rain) and fetch it from him! I was not impressed. But clearly it wasn't coming back the same way it went out, so I did. I asked him "Did you take our chair?!" and he just babbled some more (I think it included thank you, at least) and handed it to me. I did say "Don't take our chairs!!" but I doubt it had an impact. Bizarre.
