Another old Thursday

posted Wednesday, 22 March 2006

Another old Thursday night. Just not much going on lately. And I got to be off desk last night - woo hoo! - so I avoided any potential weirdness then.

Safety Vest is in tonight, as he is just about every Thursday. At one point he starts yapping at a guy looking at a bus schedule, about all the route changes. Yeah, he would be the type of guy who has the bus schedule memorized. Then he wants dream interpretation books, which is fine, but we rarely have any in. At one point he says he saw 3, and as I'm saying that that's where they'll be, then, he adds that they're not there any more. As I'm searching, he asks me if I understand what he's asking me for. Um, yes...I'm not the one with a mental defect here, buddy. God, I'm glad there was one in or he'd have been hounding me for the rest of the night.

Then a suspect-looking guy came in and wanted a "visitor's pass" for the Internet. I was wary, but asked him where he was from. He named a neighbouring town. I said "And you don't have any ID?" "Yeah, I do. I didn't think I did, but I just remembered." and he handed me his methadone prescription. Sigh. At this point I just wasn't in the mood to argue with someone whose entire life can be summed up by his drug of choice, so I told him that one time only we could log him in, but there was a lineup.

By this point (7:30) I was dying for a break and told Circ Chief about him and that I was sorry, but they'd have to do it, I was dying for a break. And she said "You look it!! Sorry, but you do."
