And I was sober...

posted Sunday, 4 December 2005
Juliet hosted a get-together for library staff last night and she had a karaoke machine. Despite my small size, I am an incredibly large ham, so letting me near it might not have been the best plan.  Since no-one else would start, Cassie and I (children's people have no shame about singing in public) did These Boots are Made For Walking. Juliet's daughter even brought us boots - cowboy ones for Juliet and enormous galoshes for me (they were not made for walking, actually, I nearly fell over). Then Juliet and I donned silly hats and did La Bamba, which is much easier to sing when you don't have the actual Spanish words in front of you. But having a Grease karaoke CD was really bad. Fawn and I did Summer Nights (she made an excellent Danny Zuko). Eventually we got just about everyone to sing something, including Phil, which was cool. He did 2 - Unchained Melody and Hey Jude. I didn't know he could sing. But then I couldn't resist doing Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee and while I had a ball, looking back on it I'm rather embarrassed. It's not exactly the most people-you-work-with-appropriate song. I'm glad Manager had left by then. (At least, I think she had...yikes.)
